Things to see and do from Rowan Cottage, Buckden

There are numerous activities that can be found locally, including fishing, pony trekking, pot holing, rock climbing, cycling, hot air ballooning and of course numerous walks, hikes and treks to suit the ability of everyone. The Dales offer wonderful vistas for photographing and touring by motor bike or car.

A short drive away are the delightful Dales villages of Grassington, Kettlewell, Burnsall, Arncliffe, Litton and Kilnsey with its famous Crag for rockclimbing, trout farm for fishing and horse trekking centre. The market town of Skipton with medieval castle is 40 minutes drive away and close by are the Bolton Abbey Estate, with 80 miles of footpaths and Priory ruins and Malham with its famous Malham Cove and Malham Tarn.

The Upper Wharfe Valley also belongs to the National Trust and is particularly prized for its characteristic drystone walls, dales barns, flower-rich hay meadows, beautiful riverside and valleyside woodland. Other local National Trust sites are Brimham Rocks, just outside of Pateley Bridge, Fountains Abbey and Studley Royal near Ripon and Harrogate and Riddlesden Hall near Saltaire World Heritage Site.
